1977 Yamaha XS7502D
These bikes were voted "Bike of the Year" by MCN and
MCW in 1977; knocking the Kawasaki Z1000 off the throne was quite an
achievement!
Yamaha dared to be different with the XS750 -
innovative, ground breaking and characterful, with a great sound from
the 3-2 pipes. Shaft drive was the real clincher for touring riders -
and a LOT cheaper than a BMW R75/7.
Once sought after and popular, now overlooked and
forgotten, but prices for good ones are creeping up.
This one has less than 9000 miles from new; one
previous owner and lots of history. There are very few original 1977 2D
models left and even fewer in standard, unmodified condition.
It was supplied new by Jack Lilly (then of Shepperton). I've had it for
11 years and its been featured in Classic & Motorcycle Mechanics and in
Roland Browns fantastic book "Superbikes of the Seventies" published 4
or 5 years ago.
An inspiring ride on a sunny Sunday afternoon with
nowhere in particular to go.
My favourite, despite owning many other examples of
the marque! |
